Your Local Garage Door Team in San Marco
San Marco sits right across the river from downtown, a short drive from our shop on Leon Road, so when a spring snaps or an opener quits, we can usually be there the same day.
Garage doors in San Marco come in two very different flavors. The historic streets around San Marco Square and Marco Lake are full of 1920s and 1930s homes, many with detached garages, narrow driveways and openings that were sized for cars from another era. Farther south, neighborhoods like Miramar and Lakewood filled in after World War II with ranch homes and attached garages. We work on both, and we know an old detached garage needs a different approach than a 1950s attached one.

Garage Door Repairs We Handle in San Marco
Broken spring repair is the call we get most in San Marco, followed by garage door opener repair on older units with no modern safety sensors. We also fix off track doors, replace frayed cables and worn rollers, and handle new garage door installation for homeowners who want a door that fits the look of a historic home.
What We See Most Often Here
- Detached garages with older doors that have been patched more than once
- Openers that predate modern safety sensors, or sensors that no longer line up
- Odd sized openings that don’t match today’s standard door sizes
- Homeowners replacing a plain door with a carriage style door that suits the house
A New Door That Fits an Old House
On a 1920s home, the garage door is part of the curb appeal, and a plain flat panel door can look out of place. Carriage style and wood look steel doors give you the classic look without the upkeep of real wood, and they hold up far better to Jacksonville humidity. Before we quote a new door, we measure the actual opening, check the framing and headroom, and walk you through styles that suit the house. On repairs, we size springs to the real weight of your door, and on a two spring door we always replace both springs, never just the broken one.

The Brickyard That Became a Neighborhood
Before it was San Marco, this side of the river was its own town called South Jacksonville, incorporated in 1907. In the 1920s Florida land boom, developer Telfair Stockton turned the old Gamble and Stockton brickyard into an 80 acre neighborhood and named it after the famous square in Venice. He built San Marco Square and San Marco Boulevard, and instead of filling the brickyard’s old clay pit, he turned it into Marco Lake. South Jacksonville voted to join the city of Jacksonville in 1932, and the San Marco name was so popular that it stuck to most of the old town.
