Oakleaf Plantation was established in 2002 by The Hutson Companies, a Jacksonville developer, on more than 6,400 acres along the line between Clay and Duval counties. It was planned around village style neighborhoods, schools, parks and shopping so families wouldn’t have to drive far for everyday needs, and by 2003 it was already one of the fastest growing communities in the area. Part of it borders Jennings State Forest, which keeps a lot of green space around the neighborhoods. Today the First Coast Expressway runs right through Oakleaf, and new sections are still being built.
